Keep up the great efforts and contributions. We have our class trip to the Anatomy Museum on Wednesday morning and this is going to be followed by our Kayaking session at Moana Pool in the afternoon. Thanks to all of you who have offered help already - I should have made contact with you by now so you know when and where you are needed.
Students - Remember the disco is on THURSDAY night, 7-pm and you must return your permission slip when you buy your ticket ($4) from school this week! Some great creativity in expressing common expressions through art by room 4 with Mrs Fitzgerald - check out the slide show of the awesome expression through art! Summah received the school assembly award this week for her great focus in all areas of learning and for
Ryan a great effort showing perseverance and determination during our cross country training so far this term!
A video put together by and starring - Thomas, Tomas, Damien, Keala, Eva, Anastasia and Emily It has been wonderful to see all the terrific efforts that have gone into training and improving individual fitness for the school cross country and for general health and well being over the last 4 weeks. Room 4 students have been recording their distances run each day and so far we have a combined class total as of 13th August of 967km!!!
The track will be wet this week so students should come along to school with a towel, plastic bag, dry socks etc and plenty of warm clothes to wear while watching other races. As students will be pretty wet and muddy after their race we they will be changing back into school uniform to go home in. The results of theses races will be used to select the students who will represent Balmacewen Intermediate at the Intermediate Schools Cross Country at Kaikorai Valley College on Friday 5th September. As always we welcome and appreciate the support of all parents, friends and relatives if you are able to make it along for a look! Jacob had his work in the Otago Science Fair and came away with a premier award (one of only 7 given out) along with 2 other Aurora awards, a fantastic result, well done Jacob!
Bruce Potter who is a children's book author visited year 7 groups today and shared some of his skills and talked to everyone about how he puts his books and illustrations together. An awesome visitor to the school! you can check out more about his work at www.brucepotter.co.nz Term 3 is off to a fantastic start with such a great group of students in room 4! We have been working hard in setting personal goals for the term, thinking about something academic, something else within the school and a goal for outside school to work towards achieving this term. As well as these goals there is always a focus on being the best you can, trying your best and making sure you are being a 'nice person' to everyone around you while having fun! Ethan a focused start to learning in Term 3 - Well done for all your efforts so far! Success is all about attitude and participation. Check out the clip below that we watched in assembly relating to this. Well term three is well under way with lots of great stuff planned. It has been great this week catching up with parents for interviews and discussing all of the great things students are doing and making plans to help with learning progression for the remainder of the year. Our big idea this term is "CHANGE THROUGH CHALLENGE" and we will be looking at ways in which we are able to improve our own personal health. Over the next few weeks we will be learning a lot about different body systems and how they work before including bones, muscles, cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive systems and then leading into our changes at puberty lessons.
Well this term has been a busy one here at school. Students have worked hard in all areas and produced some great Science Fair Inquiry work. School reports are coming home today and these are followed up with interviews in week 1 next term. I hope everyone has a relaxing break and comes back refreshed for another term of learning in 2 weeks time!
![]() Finished We finally landed in the freezing cold Antarctica. Right as I stepped out of the plane it hit me the -21 degrees. Then I saw kids across the lake playing ice hockey in shorts and T-shirts and shorts I don't know how they aren't cold but whatever. I wanted to jump straight back in the plane but before I knew it it was gone with all my warm clothes and my friends in it I yelled "come back you cowards!!!" It was starting to get dark and cold. I found an ice cave so I decided to spend the night in it to keep warm but it looks like I'm not the only one trying to keep warm I heard a very loud Grr! It was a polar bear. I was stopped right in my tracks I was so scared that I couldn't move but I found a big creak in the wall that I could run in to to hide. I ran in to the gape and waited for the polar bear to pass. Once I thought it passed I jumped out of the gap and ran to the deepest part of the cave. But then I saw it a whole family of polar bears and they were all sleeping and then I heard it again Grr! It was the male polar bear coming back with some food then outside the cave a plane was landing so the only thing I could do was to run straight pass the polar bear so I did and as soon as the polar bear saw me he ran after me but my legs were faster and I got the plane just in time I was so glad that I got away because that polar bear was angry. |
