Well done Jacob this weeks awards were given out to students for "Presenting your Mihi Mihi with confidence and pride" at our recent Marae visit. Well done!
We finally landed in the freezing cold Antarctica. right as I steeped out of the plane it hit me the -21 degrees. Then I saw kids across the lake playing ice hockey in shorts and T-shirts and shorts I don't know how they
aren't cold but whatever. I wanted to jump straight back in the plane but before I knew it was gone with all my warm clothes and my friends in it I yelled "come back you cowards !!!" It was starting too get dark and cold. I found a ice cave so I decided to spend the night in it to keep warm but it looks like I'm not the only one trying to keep warm I heard a very loud Grr! It was a a polar bear..... To be continued Our latest class shared story we have started reading is 'Scoop and Scribe Search for the Seven Stars of Matariki" This ties in well to our current learning about the Maori New Year celebrations relating to the Matariki star constellation.
Thanks Eva for selecting this read for us! Another part of our afternoon at the Art Gallery involved the creation of our 3D lizards, these will be crawling all over our classroom wall very soon! Room 4 had a great time adding to the "Lego Creation" at the Dunedin Art Gallery today as part of our visit there this afternoon Morgan - Always enthusiastic and motivated with a great attitude during all class PE sessions - Well done!
Well with Science Fair getting very close, most students are now well underway with testing and have become experts in their chosen subject area. Students will be starting to (or should be) prepare some of their findings and initial work that will be used to present on their Display Board. Students will be bringing their blank display boards home this week (Wednesday 11th June) and it would be a shame for them to rush into this and not get the final display looking how they may like, we will be going over in class in detail all that goes onto the boards. Below is a presentation of some very useful layout tips and ideas which will assist in getting these looking great.
SCIENCE FAIR!!!...things should be coming together nicely with Science Fair - those of you who are testing should be well into this now and hopefully starting to think about some of the results you are getting from the tests you have done. If you are "making/inventing" something you should be well through this now and hopefully testing your model or design out. Remember it is just as much about the process as it is the final result of your testing or invention and you need to be keeping notes of all that you do in your log book! some tips here very soon relating to the display boards and how to present your findings!
This week the awards given out were recognising students who show the following
- "Caring for others, Cooperation skills, and including others" Tayla you consistently show these qualities. Room 4 had a great day out on Thursday 5th June at Arai te Uru Marae learning about many different Maori customs and traditions. Here is a guide as to where you should be at each week this term for Science Fair. It has been great seeing all the great ideas developing and progressing into what
Instructions of how to create the perfect Milo have been coming along very well with Miss Todd. Tomorrow we will be putting these into action with the "Tim Tam Slam" instructions. In preparing for this everyone must have their set of instructions ready to share along with their MUG. Check out below if you are having trouble remembering all the steps you must include in your instructions.. Well done Emily - A focused start to term 2 keep up the great efforts in all that you do. You have shown some great skills in our recent sign language learning also!
It was awesome to get into learning and using the NZ Finger Spelling Alphabet today as part of our acknowledgement and involvement in NZ Sign Language Week. All students are well on their way to learning and mastering the alphabet (some have got it already!) This week's spelling home work consists of students learning to finder spell the list of 10 words they have in their spelling notebooks - so I encourage everyone at home to have a go, all students have their own copy of the alphabet so get into it and enjoy learning the new skill - I know I am enjoying the challenge. I am looking forward to our visitor - Tom on Wednesday who is deaf and will be teaching the class more about sign language. click here to read more about it and other useful resources
We are underway with our Science investigations for the term. Our focus in class alongside getting science fair projects up and running is looking into "States of Matter" being the relationship between solids, liquids and gases. We had some fun exploring and discussing these today in class. Below is a bit of an intro clip we have used in class help explain what we are learning about... We had our Baseline testing for our May Mega Math Month on Monday morning at 9am... OUr baseline average was 45.6% so there is a lot of room for improvement. It has been great to see everyone making focused efforts in class this week on ways to improve basic facts knowledge. I am looking forward to measuring the first step of progress in our test tomorrow morning!
